Well, here we go again... another trip down the Oregon coast into northern California. Never gets old! One of our favorite, relatively easy road trips, we took nearly 4 weeks to get to Petaluma (our usual base for San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland) and a couple of weeks to get back home.
This trip was pretty much the same as our previous trips down the coast. We had planned to stay on the coast going south then stay for a few days to a week in Portland on the way home. However, the weather in Oregon was simply fabulous. While in Florence we looked at the weather forecast for Portland over the next 10 days. Clear and sunny. Hmmm, the last few times we have been in Portland it has been raining heavily so we decided to change course and hit Portland now rather than take a chance on good weather towards the end of September. So back north and east we went and spent a terrific 5 days in Portland then headed back to the coast and continued our trip south on 101.

For the return trip north it is pretty much the opposite, up the coast, except for when we decided to take another quick trip east to Portland and then noticed the weather forecast for the coast was now for heavy rain, we opted to just head north on I-5 to Seattle for a couple of days. Then it was back up the Olympic peninsula, a quick stop on Bainbridge Island, the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria for the few hours drive north to Courtenay.
Total distance traveled on this trip was just shy of 7,000 kms.
